Spring Wardrobe

By Neluka Dunning

As spring arrives, many of us feel the urge to refresh our wardrobes. Shops are filled with new-season collections, and it can be tempting to start again.

But after years working in clothing alterations, I have learned that most wardrobes do not need replacing. They simply need reworking.

Every week, we see garments that customers had almost given up on. A dress that no longer fits quite right. A jacket that feels outdated. Jeans that sit awkwardly or have worn hems.

With a few thoughtful adjustments, those pieces often become favourites again.

Here are five simple alterations that can make a real difference.

Shortening dresses and skirts

Hemlines can completely change how a garment feels. A dress that once felt too long can suddenly look more modern and flattering with a small adjustment.

Turning jeans into shorts

Spring is the perfect time to revive worn denim. Jeans with damage near the hem can easily be transformed into shorts, giving them a completely new purpose.

Restyling oversized shirts

Oversized shirts can be reshaped to create a more flattering fit. Adjusting the waist or sleeve length can turn something rarely worn into a staple piece.

Replacing buttons

Changing buttons is a simple update that can refresh a coat or cardigan instantly. It is a small detail that makes a noticeable difference.

Repairing denim

Denim repairs are one of the most common requests we see. Reinforcing worn areas can add years to the life of a favourite pair of jeans.

One of the most interesting shifts we have seen is the number of younger customers embracing alterations. Sustainability plays a role, but so does a growing appreciation for quality and individuality.

A spring wardrobe reset does not have to mean buying something new.

Often, the most satisfying transformation comes from rediscovering something you already own.
