Spend a Night In With Your Wardrobe

Share it!

Our relationship with our wardrobe doesn’t have to be confined to pulling items out first thing every morning and hanging them up every night.

Why not make a belated New Year’s resolution to spend a night in with your wardrobe every month or two?

Grab a drink of your choice, some non-sticky snacks, pop on some of your favourite tunes and get cosy for a night with your clothes.

Have a close look at each item and check if there are any missing buttons, tears, holes or loose hems. Put these to one side ready for home repairs if they are minor jobs or to take to your nearest Zip Yard store.

Trying garments on is the only way you’ll find out if they still fit perfectly. If you’re still fond of an item, our stores across the UK can help with alterations. Alternatively, place them in a bag ready for your next visit to a favourite charity shop – or organise clothes swap with friends or family.

During your night in, experiment with different combinations, which is far more relaxing and enjoyable than trying on clothes in-store changing rooms with unforgiving mirrors.

This is a great way to remind ourselves of what we already have. The value of clothing sat unloved and unworn in UK wardrobes is estimated at £30 billion and we’re simply not getting the best out of the clothes we already own.

Another way to make your clothes go further is to evolve your wardrobe into one that flows with the seasons. Here are three simple tips to get that ‘new’ feeling from the clothes you already own:

  • Try layering a top or shirt that you usually wear with jeans over a dress and pull in the waist with a belt;

  • Switch your dress to a skirt as summer fades to autumn/winter. Layer chunky jumpers over a dress or layer both a roll neck underneath and a thin pullover or sweater over the top;

  • Last, but not least, bring your clothes to your nearest Zip Yard to be transformed by our skilled seamstresses. Use our imagination to create something fresh and funky.
